birthday

Today I turned 26. I don't really like parties, and never have, so DJ and I had a low key birthday lunch at one of my favorite places: Zama. Its a sushi place, which is not usually on our rotation of places to go because sushi doesn't always fill us up.Today we got two veggie rolls, a super crunchy spicy tuna roll, the smoked salmon and fig roll, and the Philly cheese steak roll. All were so amazing! After, we went to a cafe that we have been meaning to check out: Pure Fare. The coffee was really smooth and the pistachio-dark chocolate bark was rich and certainly worth the price.

But before all of this, DJ came home with a great little gift...
Classy? Maybe not, but definitely thoughtful!
Along with all the great wishes that I have gotten through text, FB, and calls, it is shaping up to be a good B-day!

First Holy Communion

It has been a crazy week! Here's the haps from Connor's First Holy Communion!

The Brown Boys looking very serious. From left Hunter and Connor
Hunter and Connor with Uncle Jay (my brother and Connor's Godfather)
The church had such a cool roof! There were so many people we had to stand!
My mom made a cake for the Connor's party. She asked Connor to choose two verses for the cake

He picked Job 28:18 (left) No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies, and Luke 24:41 And while they still disbelieved for joy and were marveling, he said to them,
“Have you anything here to eat?” Connor is a fun and witty kid!

Mom made these grapes and the chalice out of gum paste (I think)
Five Days later  there are now 3 Brown Boys!! Welcome Parker David Brown born
Friday, May 25th. at 3:40 pm, 7lbs 12 oz and 20 inches long!

Spring is here

So now it is Spring. Lent is going on, but it is on the upswing. I am excited for break and Easter. In celebration of that DJ and I turned the raised bed in our back yard. We planted red lettuce, mustard greens, dill, fennel, swiss chard, and pansies. I felt so alive to be outside all day.

No pictures of the garden yet, but here is a picture of Noam Chompsky.

new year...and?

So the holidays are over and the getting back to business has set in. I went through a lot over the short break from Philly life.

DJ and I are always learning from riding together in a car. It is a tight space where one person must be in control of where both are going. The problem is that both of us don't like driving or have an opinion about the other's driving. It gets very intense and I cannot run away from the situation like I usually do when a conflict arises. We have come a long way, but when emotions run high, it never fails that I cry at some point.

I also got sick with something that I haven't had for years...pink eye! Yes, pink eye. I caught it from a friend of my sisters who is staying at my mother's house. I contracted it in my left eye and treated it with homeopathic eye drops. After 3 days it had gone away and I thought I was in the clear. Nope. Two days later I felt the itch in my right eye and woke up the next day with a crusty eye. This time I treated it with antibiotic drops from the clinic. Did the trick (I hope!)

I have a few things to be excited about in the new year. My younger brothers are both going to have babies. I have already started making quilts! Also DJ got some beer making supplies for Christmas. I can't wait to see what he brews up.
